- How could you apply the resources to your own teaching practice?
t starts before the students are officially enrolled. First I would become familiar with the UAL Disability Service webpages and explore the webpages to gain an understanding of the resources, services, and accommodations provided. Second, I would check it regularly to stay informed about any updates, new resources, or changes in policies. This will enable me to provide accurate information and support to my students.
I am a mental health first-aider at UAL. Taking a 3-day course with UAL has helped prepare me for this task. I am planning on taking workshops/classes with UAL Disability Service to be able to offer the right type of support to my students. This may include information on disability support, assistive technology, accessibility guidelines, and policies.
- How could you integrate the research/work your students do on this subject into your teaching/professional practice?
The support I may offer starts from the beginning from how I deliver the briefs, lectures, and evaluate assessments. It is important to create an inclusive learning environment and to encourage students to discuss their needs with me and the Disability Service, ensuring they understand the process for requesting accommodations or support.
I would pay attention to the sections that pertain to the specific disabilities or challenges my students may have. Take note of any accommodations, adjustments, or alternative formats mentioned that can aid their learning process.
Another option would be to reach out to the Disability Service directly to discuss specific cases, seek advice, or request further support. They can provide guidance on best practices, reasonable accommodations, and any additional resources.
If I come across specific web pages or sections that directly address the needs of my students, I can provide them with the corresponding links or guide them to navigate the site to find the information they require.
- Can you cite examples? You will share your thoughts within your groups and comment and share further resources you use in your own context.
Students’ needs may vary, so it is important to have open communication with my students and collaborate with the Disability Service to ensure their individual requirements are met effectively.
The majority of my students struggle with Dyslexia. I offered them extra tutorials and time to work on their assignments.
